There's no use complaining that vampires today aren't what they used to be. The days when they were just rat-faced reprobrates or metaphors for the degenerate central European aristocracy are long gone. Nowadays, pretty much any character type can be a vampire. With more and more anime coming over to the US, it becomes more and more important that a series be highly original and run on all cylinders. Otherwise, we get rather generic titles that try to be awesome and original, but fall far short. Case in point: Innocent Venus.

Bandai Visual Bandai Visual to Stream "Galaxy Angel Rune" and "Super Robot Wars OG"

Bandai Visual plans to stream the first episodes of Galaxy Angel Rune and Super Robot Wars OG: Divine Wars for free on their website in a few weeks. Currently, Haruka's first episode is streaming, and there are plans to stream Shigofumi, Sola, and True Tears once those titles are no longer delayed.

Cartoon Network "Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" Premieres on Cartoon Network June 5, 2008

Cartoon Network's newest animated series The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack will be premiering on June 5, 2008, at 8:30 PM (Eastern/Pacific). KidsWB Halloween Comes Early for "Spider-Man"

"The Uncertainly Principle" will pit Peter Parker and Spider-Man against Halloween this Saturday on the newest episode of The Spectacular Spider-Man, Kids WB said yesterday.

TV "Clone Wars" Trailer Hitting Cable Networks May 8

A two-minute trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars will debut simultaneously across five Time Warner networks on Thursday, May 8, Warner Bros. announced today.

DreamWorks Kohl's Sending Part of "Kung Fu Panda" Profits to Charity

The Kohl's department store chain will donate all net profits from its sales of a special Kung Fu Panda storybook and set of plush characters to its Kohl's Cares for Kids philanthropic program, the company said yesterday.

The items, which will retail for $5.00 each, will be available through June.

Video Games THQ Masterminding Games for DreamWorks' 2010 title

THQ has licensed and will publish video games based on DreamWorks Animation's upcoming animated feature Master Mind under a deal announced by the two companies yesterday.

Corporate DreamWorks Joining S&P MidCap Index

DreamWorks Animation will be added to Standard & Poor's MidCap 400 price index after the close of trading on Thursday, CNN Money reports. The studio will replace Millennium Pharmaceuticals in the line up after the drug maker is acquired by Takeda Pharmaceutical.


 

East Asia Indian Actor Sues Over Animated Adaptation

Indian actor Dileep has filed a copyright infringement against the maker of an animated movie, Galatta.com reports.

Video Games Cartoon Network Launches New "Ben 10" Game Creator Online

Cartoon Network New Media has launched Ben 10 Alien Force: Game Creator, a free online game that gives players tools and animations to build their own Ben 10 games, the company said earlier this week.

Completed games can be shared or sent to CartoonNetwork.com's game gallery.

Warner Bros. Chris Wedge to Direct "Hugo Cabret"

Chris Wedge is the latest animator to get a gig directing a live-action film.

The Ice Age director will helm an adaptation of Brian Selznick's The Invention of Hugo Cabret for Warner Bros, Variety reports. John Logan will write the script.

News ER's "Retro Heroes" Joining YouTube

Animated clips featuring He-Man, She-Ra, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Fat Albert, and other characters will appear on YouTube, Joost, and Babelgum on Retro Heroes, a new free-to-view channel being launched by Entertainment Rights, the company said yesterday.

The clips will run between two and five minutes in length and will be selected from the Entertainment Rights catalog.

DVDs "Animalia" Coming to US DVD Market

Animalia: Welcome to the Kingdom, will be released to DVD in the US on September 23, World Screen reports.

The DVD, which collects four episodes of the series based on Graeme Base book, will feature four episodes. It will be the first in a series of releases by PorchLight Home Entertainment, which recently picked up US DVD rights to the series. Discuss this news in DVD Discussion.

Disney Disney Income Surges in Latest Quarter

The Walt Disney Company had net income of $1.1 billion in the quarter ended March 29, up from $931 million in the same quarter a year ago, the company announced today. Quarterly revenues rose to $8.7 billion from $8.0 billion

Marvel "Hollywood Reporter" Gives Details on "Marvel Super Hero Squad"

The World's Finest Online has confirmed that DC Comics' The Batman Strikes! comic book will be ending with issue #50, shipping in October 2008. The comic book was a tie-in for The Batman animated series, and is being cancelled to make way for a new tie-in comic book to link with the new Batman: The Brave and the Bold TV series. Pixar WALL•E to Join Disney Theme Park Casts; Director Stanton Interviewed

The Screamscape website is reporting that a life-sized animatronic version of WALL•E, the lead robot character in the upcoming Disney/Pixar movie, will begin appearing at Disney theme parks in the United States.
