To paraphrase Dave Reynolds, artist of ShadowGirls on the amount of work being done: "I do about 110 full color pages a year, but doing 200 black and white, graytoned in a matter of months...is just borderline "You've looked at Cthulhu."

'UNDER THE KNIFE' - BATMAN BEYOND UK CUT REPORTS
-by Brian Davis

Batman Beyond is called Batman of the Future in the UK. It is shown on CITV Sundays at 9.25am and they make a lot of cuts !!!! Brian Davis uncovers these cuts and lets the public know how good BB episode are being butchered in the UK.

This week: "SPLICERS"

I have Splicers from an american video which I bought so I can report cuts now. From now on I'll be reporting cuts the following Friday when BB airs in Ireland. OK....

A good few small cuts this week :

1- Why was Cuviers claw all covered in blood when he hardly touched Batman?  Well, that's because if it was left uncut we'd see Cuvier say to Batman 'Young's dead meat and so are you', he then claws Batman a few times as Batman tries to dodge him and finally flys off out through the window.

2- Why did Barbara say 'You're killing him' when they were fighting in her house? That's cause Batman hits the mutant a lot of times and we hear a lot of crunches. That was cut.

3- In the cave when Batman turns to a bat there is a lot more fighting. He lifts Ace and throws the poor doggy through the glass of the Robin costume into it. We also see The Riddlers costume in the background and there is more of Batman trying to kill Bruce who then takes the antidote gun and shoots Batman with it where he falls to the floor knocked out. All we see is Batman grab Bruce and he then myteriously falls to the floor.

4- We see more of the claw left by Cuvier in Terry's side when Bruce notices it.

5- Not sure if this was cut or not but Snake digs his teeth right into Batmans shoulder in the final mutant fight scene.

6- More violence in the Cuvier as a Chimera scene.

7- The Chimera getting electrocuted bit was slowed down due to fast light effects.

That's it for next week. I advise everyone to get an aerial that picks up irish TV and watch on Fridays.

These are only the cuts I have cared to notice, who knows what other episodes and scenes have been butchered. Each Batman is supposed to last just under 20 minutes. With CITV we are getting between 15 and 17 minute episodes !!

Next week is Earth Mover and I hear there are corpses at the end of it. Think we'll see em ??

BATMAN BEYOND
ISSUES: "Vendetta" (#8)
WRITTEN BY: Hilary J. Bader & Rich Fogel
PENCILLED BY: Craig Rousseau
INKED BY: Rob Leigh
ISSUED: April 26, 2000 (cover date, June 2000)
RATING (out of 5): **1/2

If there's one thing that Issue #8 succeeded in, it is this: Blight may never return in the series (sigh), but his legacy will live on forever.  Unfortunately, I feel that this issue does not do any of the characters justice. I was hoping that this issue would start to tie up the loose ends Derek Powers' death created; I was wrong.
Paxton is hardly as ruthless and snake-like as he was in "ASCENSION".  There's nothing wrong with Bruce and Terry, per se, but they hardly grab my interest here.  Miss Winston gets more dialogue than she EVER has in history up to this point; her character development is interesting, but needs a lot more explaining to do.  I guess I'll accept the fact that she "caught" Powers' disease from working with him so closely so often, and I'll accept the fact that she had feelings for him all these years; I suppose it makes sense that she wants to keep Paxton from inadvertantly destroying Wayne-Powers in order to retain Derek's legacy.
What I don't like is how she uses her powers and then manages to retain them; this is never explained. Whenever she's fighting someone, her body is HUGE - just look at the first few pages of the book - but when she's in the board room, she's petite and demure - a physical female Bruce Timm typecast.  We never see HOW she can change - we are never even told that she can to transform from one to the other - we just have to take her word for it. It SEEMS that it has to do with her glasses, though - it's a freaky radiation-induced Clark Kent/Superman thing or something...
The art is still great as always. I never have any complaints there. Rousseau and Leigh are terrific.  It's just the story - as always - which I scrutinize the most and, unfortunately, as great the potential was, the story just never develops into something terribly memorable.
