NY Times on "Epic Mickey" Makeover for Disney's Icon

The New York Times has taken a look at Epic Mickey, the upcoming Disney video game designed by Warren Spector (Deus Ex) which will "re-vision" Mickey Mouse (free registration required). The video game is only one of a number of initiatives launched by Disney in an effort to make Mickey more of a character and less of a corporate symbol, involving creative minds throughout the company all the way up to CEO Robert A. Iger. The plot of the video game will involve Mickey battling the Phantom Blot overlord and a bitter, jealous Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in a "cartoon wasteland" where all of Disney's forgotten and retired cartoons live.
