The New York Times is reporting the passing of animation and comedy writer Chris Hayward on November 20 at the age of 81 (registration required). The cause of death was reported to be cancer. Hayward was a long-time writer for Jay Ward Productions, being most closely associated with the "Dudley Do-Right" segments. The obituary notes that these shorts were briefly banned in Canada for being "harmful to the national esteem."

Hayward was also a creator of The Munsters and a writer for Get Smart and Barney Miller.
