"Matinee at the Bijou" to Bring High-Definition Cartoon Shorts to PBS

By Ed Liu

PBS will be reviving "Matinee at the Bijou," a series that aims to "faithfully replicate the pre-1960 movie matinee experience," with a new 12-episode season in 2007. Animated short films will be included as a regular part of each installment, all of which will be remastered in high-definition, with Betty Boop, Tom & Jerry, and the Fleischer Superman cartoons being named as potential candidates for the show.

The show's official weblog can be found at matineebijou.blogspot.com, where it is revealed that Debbie Reynolds will be hosting the show. The blog will also contain scheduling and sponsor updates as well as preview videos.
