Wachowski Brothers to direct "Speed Racer"

Coming Soon.net reports that the Wachowski Brothers will helm the long-in-development adaptation of the popular classic cartoon, Speed Racer.

The film will follow the adventures of Speed as he tries to achieve glory in his souped up, gaget-laden car, The Mach 5. The movie will also feature characters from the series such as Speed's family and his mysterious racing counterpart, Racer X.

The family-friendly movie will shoot this summer for a summer 2008 release.
