Publishers Weekly on Cable TV Effect on Graphic Novel Sales

By Ed Liu

Thomas J. McLean of Publishers Weekly has written an article analyzing how a hit anime show often leads to a surge in manga sales, while similar ratings hits for cartoons based on American superhero comics often have little or no effect on comic sales, including for tie-in books such as Justice League Adventures or Teen Titans Go! The article also speculates on candidates for "The Next Naruto," including Avatar the Last Airbender, Basilisk, Legion of Superheroes, Fantastic Four, and Bleach.
