NY Times on Nickelodeon vs. Disney

By Ed Liu

The New York Times looks at the ratings race for children and teen programming, focusing on current front-runner Nickelodeon and rising challenger the Disney Channel (registration required). The article notes that none of Nickelodeon's new programming has achieved superstar status on the order of Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer, Blue's Clues, or Rugrats, while also noting that Disney's gains have come via live-action programming and made-for-cable movies like High School Musical and The Cheetah Girls.
