SDCC: DelRey Announces 5 New Manga Titles

By Karl R. Olson
07-20-2006, 4:21 PM

At their panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, DelRey announced 5 new manga titles:
  • Shugo Chara by PEACH-PIT
  • Mamotte Lollipop by Michiyo Kikuta
  • Mushishi by Yuki Urushibara
  • Kitchen Princess by Miyuki Kobayashi
  • Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaki
Parasyte is the same manga that TokyoPop had published flipped many years ago; DelRey's edition will be unflipped and will have a new translation. Parasyte has also been optioned by NewLine Cinema for a live action film to be directed by Takashi Shimizu, the director of The Grudge. Mushishi and Kitchen Princess have won the Kodansha Manga of the Year and Shojo Manga of the Year titles, respectively. Mamotte Lollipop will be getting an anime adaption starting within the next month in Japan, as the manga has been very popular in serialization in Nakayosi Magazine. Shugo Chara is the first explicitly shojo effort from the popular manga team PEACH-PIT, who are probably best known for DearS and Rozen Maiden, and is also in serialization in Nakayosi.

DelRey also noted that the cover of the second volume of Air Gear will be edited slightly, although the original cover art will be made available online. Also on the vague slight editing note, volume six of Genshiken will include 24 doujinshi pages by various manga-ka that were originally packaged as a bonus book with the Limited Edition version of volume five in Japan; however, two pages will be omitted from US release, as they contained content not suitable for minors.

Toon Zone's coverage live from the San Diego Comic-Con will continue throughout the weekend.
