Belch's Brief Reviews
DR. BELCH

MiB:
"The Musical Chairs Syndrome". The season opener brings a lot of new changes. L is now a field operative, partnered with Z, a guy who looks like a cross between a young K and a young Yoda. She thinks
her new partner is a total horse's a**, although if she complains, she'll be back in the lab diddling with her test tubes. Her replacement is the alien version of Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown character in
"Back to the Future", who seems to be replacing Troy the symbiote as alien comic relief. A funny scene occurs when the doc performs impromptu brain surgery on J after skin contact with an alien (I will
never look at retreads on the highway the same again) leaves him nearly incapacitated with arthritis. Fav line: the prof asks K, "Has he suffered any trauma recently?" I half expected K to reply,
"Seems like every other week, doc."
Pokémon:
"The Wacky Watcher". Hahahahaha!! Groucho Marx as a Pokémon watcher! Actually it sounded like Groucho but looked like the bushy haired-critic who pops up every once in a while on "The
Critic" (his name escapes me). Dr. Quackenpecker (I think that was the name) even spouts old Groucho lines and studies Magikarp spawning behavior religiously. Tracey is happy at a hog in chozzerai because has
someone to relate to. Perhaps the good doctor can make another appearance. Watch for him to appear with his family in that great Cleavon Schpielbunk classic, "Psyduck Soup".
Jackie Chan:
"The Power Within". "How do you swallow a golf ball?" Jackie asks his little niece in horror after she swallows the rooster talisman. Seem it falls in a pot of egg drop soup while she's
fooling around high-kicking in a Chinese restaurant and blindsides the waiter, and--gulp. Reminiscent of Frank the Pug's plight, always consuming things he shouldn't. I'm only grateful Jackie doesn't get it out of
Jade the same way J does out of the mutt. Not to mention Jade's expressions when she invokes the telekinetic power of her belly were just priceless.
Pokémon:
"The Stun Spore Syndrome". Tracey and Ash are exposed to Vileplume spore, and it's up to Misty to play nursemaid. Turns out Jessie was also exposed to the stuff, and James and Meowth end up fighting her
over the same curative grasses. I was telling Kojiro the other day that if Jessie was ever placed in a position of vulnerability it might sweeten her temper--but I didn't count on her being a vicious and
ill-tempered brat even at death's door! Takes more than deadly spores to make a little lamb out or TR's resident virago, I'd say. Misty does at least drop a little grass by the roadside to show her charitable side,
and James and Meowth are touched. Between that, Meowth's attitude in "Bound for Trouble", and Kijoro's hints about the possible dissolution of TR, maybe the idea of the Three Schlockoteers going straight
isn't so mad after all. Meowth, being bilingual, *would* make an invaluable asset to Prof. Oak as an assistant, or to Ash if he ever becomes a researcher. James, being bi--eh--something else, may have a lucrative
career in showbiz if he goes (no pun intended) straight.
DYN that Misty blows on Ah's tea before giving it to him, but *not* Tracey's, Yeah, burn you tongue, doodlebug. Ask me if I give a frig. But in the end she warns his *not* to make too much of it. The lady doth
protest too much?
Generation O!:
"Deviated Tonsils". This condition, which I've never heard of, causes Molly consternation as she worries their removal will ruin her voice. The Dancing Schuberts appear again. Are they going to be
Molly's constant nemesis? [shrieks]
Batman Beyond:
"King's Ransom". Finally two villains who have been AWOL for some time get together for once last time in a very memorable episode. The Royal Flushers, strapped for cash, are stealing art treasures in
the pay of megalomaniac Paxton Powers. Ten has since gone straight and is working in a restaurant, and the family feels the loss heavily. King seems to more and more unstable as of late, and Batman's capture of
Jack does nothing to sweeten his temper. After Paxie screws him on a deal because the goods were damaged, King decides to kidnap him and ransom him to Bruce Wayne for a few million creds. Bruce figures out Powers
has been hoarding stolen South American art for years, and that leaves Paxton in a bind--report King, and he'll be shooting himself in the foot. So he decides to kill Bruce off--which backfires badly, and the house
of cards falls down. The Flushers are broken up, and Paxie goes to jail. Which leads me to wonder who will run the company in his absence. Lucius Fox Jr., perhaps?
Revelations: King and Queen's marriage is breaking up and he's got a piece on the side--Powers' bodyguard (did Lex Luthor and Mercy conceive a daughter? >8D). And Ace is an android, which explains why his mask
has no eyeholes. Great exchange here:
BRUCE: What kept you?
TERRY: They had an Ace in the hole. [points to defunct robot]
BRUCE: So did I. [pats the dog's head]
Anyone else think it was actually Ten in Queen's suit when she confronted King about his infidelity? That'd explain how Queen could be cuffed one minute and free the next. Maybe a scene was cut--I thought I saw her
picking her cuff lock when the boys weren't looking.
MAX STEEL: "Swashbucklers". Uninspired plot about pirates and an earthquake machine capped off with the usual odd rubber-puppet animation and Josh telling Laura he kissed Rachel. Then he looks surprised
when she leaves him? Aack. I thought superheroes were supposed to have brains in their heads. You never tell a dame there's another woman on the side. I learned that one the hard way.
