A Very Special Episode of 'Static
Shock!'
The Mad Hatter

Continuum:
Phil LaMarr, who does the voice of Virgil Hawkins/Static in the upcoming
Kids' WB! animated series Static Shock!, said he found one episode
particularly touching.
"There's an episode where Virgil is actually dealing the memories of his
dead mother," LaMarr told The Continuum. "They're doing a memorial for
her, and he's just in complete denial. I like that episode because, in addition
to dealing with the super-hero stuff, he's dealing with personal stuff.
"Also, in animation so many times, people are orphaned or their parents
are dead and nobody ever feels anything about it. 'If your mother could see
you now,' the doting father says. But nobody's ever sad. Nobody ever
recognizes that lost parent. In this episode we do."
Although Kids' WB! had a mandate of making the show a little more kid
friendly than the comic, those involved with the show say it's faithful to the
core material.
"What we did in the series is we took the social elements the comic book dealt with
and turned it into a Saturday morning television version of that," said producer
Scott Jeralds.
"It's remarkably close to the comics," said Milestone's Dwayne McDuffie, who
wrote three episodes for the first season and also is re-teaming with artist John Paul
Leon for Static Shock: Rebirth of the Cool, a four-issue mini-series starting in November.
"I'm very pleased."
