The Sun Shines Brighter in the 'Zeta' Universe
The Mad Hatter
August 2, 2000 10:00:23

From the Comics Continuum:

Rich Fogel, story editor of Kids' WB!'s upcoming Batman Beyond spin-off, The Zeta Project, told The Continuum that Batman will be appearing in one episode of the series' first season.

"There will be two crossovers, one in which Zeta appears on a Batman Beyond episode and one in which Batman appears in Zeta," Fogel told The Continuum.

Fogel said the series is "looking really good." The Zeta Project will air Friday afternoons on Kids' WB!.

"We've got all 13 scripts finished and we're the boards are finishing up on them right now," Fogel said. "It's going to be real interesting.

"Although it's a spin-off of Batman Beyond, it's going to have a whole different tone to it. So it will be interesting to see how fans react to that.

"The network wanted it to skew young and lighter. We were able to do a broader spectrum of stories for it. We've got some that skew comedically, some that are big heart stories and some that are all-out action stories. So you're never know what you're going to see when you tune in."

There's also a promo pic of the series at cc. The sky is bright blue, and it looks like Zeta and Ro are still being chased by the government agent.

As this is one of the first series to be formed under the guidance of the new network gal, who doesn't much care for animated dramas, one hopes that this doesn't reflect the first step in the network's latest "new direction." The Bat-crew have always managed to overcome executive pressure in the past, but one hopes that their hands aren't too tied in this scenario--the "heart" stories description doesn't sound too encouraging. We shall see...
